Places to Visit

The Cud Life is the perfect gateway to so many attractions across the local towns and countryside.

We have printouts in the Campsite Shower Block and in the cottages with our recommended local walks and routes, including the Nidderdale Greenway, Ripley, and the circular walk over Nidd Gorge. A short drive opens up even more options, such as the beautiful reservoirs at Swinsty, Fewston and Thruscross.

We also have a list which I keep up to date of our favourite dog‑friendly pubs and restaurants in Harrogate, based on our extensive “research”. And for cosy nights in, all local takeaways deliver here and we can give you current recommendations during your stay.

Something For Everyone

Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal

Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal is a stunning blend of history and nature, with picturesque water gardens, striking abbey ruins, and roaming deer.

Brimham Rocks

Brimham Rocks is a guest favourite with its collection of towering rock formations place offering breathtaking views over Nidderdale.

Days Out With Kids

Mother Shipton’s Cave

Mother Shipton’s Cave in Knaresborough is England’s oldest tourist attraction (one of my earliest memories of days out) and the legendary birthplace of the prophetess Mother Shipton. Visit the Petrifying Well, explore scenic woodland, and enjoy themed events throughout the year—a quirky, historic day out!

Stump Cross Caverns

Stump Cross Caverns is a stunning limestone cave system in the Yorkshire Dales, discovered in the 1860s and a popular school trip for many. With ancient rock formations, fossils, and winding tunnels, it’s a fascinating spot for adventurers. At a steady 7°C year-round, wrap up warm!

Stockeld Park

Stockeld Park near Wetherby is a top family adventure spot with seasonal events, a Magical Maze, and the huge Playhive indoor playground. Explore the Enchanted Forest or enjoy themed fun all year. A great day out, rain or shine!

Hydro Fun Swim Session

Just a mile down Ripon Road, our local pool offers fun swim sessions complete with a huge inflatable, perfect for burning off energy. It’s right at the top of Tom’s list and a great choice for families looking for an active splash-about! Check timetable or ask us, usually at 1:15 on a Saturday and every day throughout the holidays
